Did Microsoft test the waters? Control Panel lovers are alive

Ana sayfa / Windows

Microsoft took action after the news that the Control Panel was being removed from Windows that emerged last week. Accordingly, Microsoft updated its latest support note about Windows Configuration Tools. The phrase about the Control Panel in the old note has also changed. So has the decision to remove the Control Panel been eliminated?

Microsoft included a statement in its support note last week that the Control Panel is being removed in favor of the Settings application. After this small detail was noticed in the support note, Microsoft had to update the support note. According to the new support note, the process of moving Control Panel items to the Settings application continues.

The Control Panel entered our lives exactly 39 years ago, in 1985. The Control Panel, which first entered our lives with Windows 1.0, is among the indispensable parts of a computer for many of us. However, Microsoft started to replace the Settings application with Windows 10.

Previously, many settings were made through the Control Panel. However, Settings is gradually taking over the functions of the Control Panel. The first person to ignite this debate was a Microsoft employee who said in 2016 that Settings would replace Control Panel. This history of the debate also explains the reactions given today.

Windows 11 updated! Music player panel is here

Among the innovations that came with the Windows 11 Beta update, a remarkable change was seen; the music player panel came to the lock screen.

But why is the decision to deprecate Control Panel and replace the application with Settings causing backlash? Although Settings is trying to replace Control Panel in general, Control Panel is still needed for some sensitive settings. Again, the application is an important habit for old Windows users.

As you know, the Settings application has a design compatible with the new Windows interface. For this reason, it can sometimes be very difficult to find the setting you need. Users who are used to the Control Panel interface find a similar setting much easier with Control Panel. Windows, on the other hand, seems determined to deprecate Control Panel with its old interface.

Microsoft is apparently preparing to make a decision to completely deprecate Control Panel. However, the fact that the company is doing this gradually rather than all at once is intended to reduce these reactions. Perhaps Microsoft tried to gauge the reaction by adding this detail to the support note.

So, do you think the decision to remove the Control Panel app is right? Is the Settings app sufficient for you? We are waiting for your comments.
